I found this game on 3ds QR codes too and I was already getting addicted to nonograms again. The adventure aspect here makes it even better. Fever dream games are the best games! Thanks for making this!

I'm so happy you enjoyed this fever dream! Thanks for your kind comment!

(+2)

Amazing game! I had never tried nonogram puzzles before, nor even heard of them, so the way that the puzzles were supplemented with storytelling and little rewards was really encouraging to keep going!

I absolutely love these puzzles now, and I plan to teach other people about them as well.

So, thank you for the game!

(+2)

I'm so happy that I could introduce you to nonograms! Thank you for playing TaiFab!! :D

(+3)

This is such a lovely game. Obviously you have to enjoy nonograms, but I was surprised how easy and fun it was to do them on s Gameboy emulator. I thought it might be awkward but it was easy and fun.

And then the overworld is so charming and funny. It feels like something made for you by a friend.

This sort of thing is exactly what I was hoping to find on itch.io. AI could never.

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for playing and commenting! I really did start by making this game for my friends, and then I decided to put it out on the internet and I was surprised that other people like it, too! I'm delighted that you enjoyed TaiFab. :D

(+2)

We apparently have similar senses of humor because not many games make me laugh out loud. :)

(+3)

This is fantastic! Really great job!

I did notice (running this on Firefox 149 on Linux Mint) that when Caps Lock is turned on that the Z and X keys stop working. It's easy to hit, too because Shift is the clear/select key.

But, really, I genuinely loved this.

(+1)

Thanks for your kind comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed TaiFab!

Sorry to hear about the caps lock issue and I appreciate you sharing the info--the controls are built into the browser-based emulator that is running the rom, but maybe there is a setting I can change for future releases to improve the control mapping. :) You can also download the rom for free and play it in an emulator if you want to set your own controls.

(+1)

hi! I bought the plus version, but its crashing consistently on my gba. where do yall want me to send photos of the crash screens? I've enjoyed the vibe of what I've seen so far!

Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear that! You can put a pic of the kernal panic right here, thanks! Unfortunately, there may not be much I can do about it.

What kind of hardware setup are you using? Did you flash the rom to a dedicated cartridge or stick it on an Everdrive or something like that? I have not tried playing it on GBA, but I have played it on a GBC with an Everdrive, as well as emulated on my PC, my phone, and a retro handheld.

I have the rom on an ezflash omega, and its running on the original gameboy advance. I have experienced trouble with gbc games on the ezflash, so it might be that?

Here is one of the photos I took. If you'd like the rest, I can upload them, but it looks like its only one image per reply.

In the mean time, I'll try the non-plus version and see if that one works.

Also, I'm not too fussed with it not working, there are many ways to play gbc games these days. And its alright if theres nothing you can do! I only know of this game bc the nonogram game retrodotcards is working on mentioned it bc they said you were also working on it. So no pressure!

Thanks very much for the photo and console details, and for your kind support! I hope you can still enjoy TaiFab on another device!

I am indeed developing a nonogram game with RetroDotCards, and I'm excited to be a part of Pixel Pup! :D Matt's a brilliant programmer and great fun to work with.

does anyone know how to solve this?? i've been stuck on it for days and I've had to resort to putting it into a nonogram solver and it said its IMPOSSIBLE... i know i's not because i see people in the comments have beat the game so someone please help I'm begging you *cry*

Ah, I can see that there are some mistakes in this screenshot, so it looks like this puzzle gave you trouble, sorry! If you would like some techniques for solving nonograms beyond the in-game tutorial, maybe the "Clues" section on this page can help: https://swadge.com/super2023/picross/

I couldn't remember which puzzle it was immediately, so I pulled out your screenshot and solved it in a paint program. ๐Ÿ˜„ You can see my solution below. Please let me know if you need anything, and I hope the rest of the game goes smoothly! ๐Ÿ’–

Hi i absolutely lov this game i've been playing every free moment for the last week but i've been blocked for a while at 200 puzzles resolved and i can't seem to figure out where it is could you please help?

(+1)

Thank you for playing and commenting! :D

Have you checked your puzzle album? :) If you are missing a puzzle in your puzzle album, then let me know which one is missing and I will give you a hint to find it.

If you have every puzzle in the puzzle album, then your missing puzzle will be somewhere in the post-game. Let me know if I can help with a hint or something!

(+2)

Thank you so much

It's in the 8x8 album first column third row

(+2)

Have you tried going behind the counter and talking to the innkeeper from there? :)

Thanks!!

(+3)

i booted the game up about three days ago. i honestly thought i'd be able to finish it in a short sitting. my word, the depth! just now i've found a lost jug, which lead me to lost treasure, which led me to lost dreams and doors hidden behind ducks not yet found.

great puzzles, great music, great humour. a wonderful experience you have crafted.

(+3)

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying the game and I really appreciate your comment. :D

(+2)

have you seen pictures of the national department of fisheries in hyderabad? i feel you'd get a kick out of it.

(+2)

I've never seen that, and now I have to look up some pics, thank you!! :D

(+1)

Okay, that is the best thing I have ever seen. Thank you! <3

(+2)

Ok... So I've played all the puzzles I can find.  How do you get more fish power?

(+1)
Have you read the signs in the museum? There's a very important sign on the back wall. :)
(+1)

THANK YOU!!!
I didn't realize the signs said more things when you read them after!

I'm glad I could help! Please let me know if you need anything else! :D

(+5)

I INHALED this game across three days and am now working on the post-game content, the fact that this game cost me a dollar to play on my gbc emulator was crazy and Iโ€™m donating more because itโ€™s amazing and I love it so much.

Thank you for playing and for leaving such a kind comment! I really appreciate your support! ๐Ÿ’–

(+3)

This game is so cute and so fun! I haven't finished all of the post-game content yet, but I'm having a great time.

Thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!!

I'm currently working on Taiyaki Fabulous Test Kitchen (GBC) and Pixel Pup (GBA). I hope you'll look forward to them! :D

I played this over the week up to 202% and I loved every second of it! โค๏ธ

How are some people getting 208%? Did I miss some puzzles?

(+1)

Thanks for playing and commenting! I'm really glad you enjoyed the game!

The Plus version of the game has 6 extra bonus puzzles. :)

(+2)

the people with 208% have the taifabplus it adds 6 extra puzzles

(+2)

This was just the game that I didnt realize I needed at just the right time.

(+1)

Thank you for saying so! I hope you got some joy from my silly game. :D

(+2)

This game consumed my entire Sunday. A little on the easy side for Picross, but I loved it. Looking forward to seeing what this developer does next!

(1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for playing and for sharing your thoughts! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you will look forward to Taiyaki Fabulous Test Kitchen. :D

(+2)

When I say I LOVE nonograms I mean it. I've been playing this for a few days and loving it!! Today I went to do the final boss puzzle and thought I had finished at 100% (witch I did) and my internal copletionist was happy but then found WAY more puzzles to do and a few doors to open.

I can't wait to do every single extra end-game nonogram! Thank you for creating this. <3

(+1)

Thank you so much for playing TaiFab! I'm really glad you're enjoying it! :D

(+3)

After playing this game to "202%" completion I can safely say that this is one of the best nonogram collections I've played. The characters all have character even given the fact that most of them have very few lines of dialogue. I got quite a few good laughs from the jokes and nothing overstayed it's welcome. Congratulations and Thank You Very Much for allowing people to access this free of charge.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the game and I appreciate your kind comment! :D

(+2)

took me a while, but I think I finally cleared all the puzzles. What a wonderful game.

Thank you so much for playing TaiFab! I really appreciate your kind words and support!

(+1)

This is a wonderful game!

You just can't go wrong with a picross/nonagon adventure, and the theme is super cute.

No sound on this PC, but my brain supplied music from Daedalian Opus while I was playing.

And I found on the PC I kept over-scrolling. I'd recommend either implementing 'Frogger' controls (where you have to tap tap tap to move) and/or have fill / X not overwrite existing fill / X spaces (meaning you'd have to clear them first.

(+1)

Thanks so much for your kind comment and thoughtful feedback!  ๐Ÿ˜„

(+1)

Just finished the game getting the over 200% done

(1 edit)

Congratulations! Thank you for playing! :D

(1 edit) (+1)

I love this game so much, it has so many puzzles and introduces so many nonogram mechanics like symmetry and negative space counting in a really subtle way. I also really like the mix of both hard 12x12 puzzles and easy 4x4 puzzle and the difficulty progression locked behind key items like a metroidvania,  The overworld makes the nonograms so much more interactive and allows for much larger options if you get stuck and gives really nice goals to aim for like X fishes or a new teleport location. I loved discovering the little secrets and the few dialogue we do get making me much more invested in the world. I do kinda feel like it would be cool if there were nonogram puzzles with some new rules to spice it up kinda like the sudoku varients like thermometer or shapes  but maybe with color or curved lines(unless there are and I haven't found them yet)

Thanks for your kind comment, and I'm so glad you enjoy TaiFab!

All the puzzles in this game are basic black-and-white nonograms. I've actually still never played any colored nonograms yet! I'll have to try some nonogram variants! :D

(+1)

Very Cool Puzzle

Congratulations!! Thanks for playing and commenting! :D

(+1)

this game seems super cool!! but the only issue is that i cant get it to work on browser :'<? if anyone knows how to help it would be greatly appreciated !! (Yes, i have tried reopening the game and browser, :'<!!)

Thanks so much for your interest in TaiFab! In order to advance from the logo screen (like in your screenshot), you need to press a game button such as 'Z' or 'Enter' on your keyboard. (I like to give the player as much time or as little time as they want, so you just press the button whenever you're ready. :D )

If the game still doesn't work in your browser, you can also download it for free and play it in an emulator. Please let me know if you need any more help! :)

(+1)

Ohh!! thank you so much!! ><!!

(+1)

sorry i'm new to these kinds of games and i was wondering how to run it on a laptop? :0 i love this game sm but i'd like to get the plus version for easy access and saving etc.!!

I'm so glad you like the game and I appreciate your support very much! Thank you for your kind comment!

I personally use BizHawk emulator to play my game, but there are many GB emulator choices out there. ๐Ÿ˜„ Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!

(+1)

Thank you so much it works wonderfully!!! I'm so excited to continue this game, thank YOU for creating it!!!

I'm so glad it's working for you! Thank you, and please let me know if you need anything else!

(+1)

This game is wonderful! I love picross and nonograms and the way you've created a beautiful world and story to hold them is very fulfilling! I can't wait to play the sequel <3

I'm so glad that you like TaiFab! I hope you will enjoy the sequel too! (I think it has some neat stuff in it. ๐Ÿ™‚) Thank you!! ๐Ÿ’–

(+1)

This game is super! I would love to see the minecraft museum. The story is quite heart warming. Cheers!

(+1)

The save is busted now because I was playing with a bunch of mods and I no longer remembered which mods, lol. ๐Ÿ˜† But I saved the text! Thanks for your kind comment!

No worries. I was wondering if you have screenshots of what plus gbc are supposed to look like. I'm running them on my miyoo mini plus and don't think I have found the right pallette. Cheers!

(+1)

I did adjust the palette a bit for the Plus release! Here's how it looks in my emulator:

(+1)

Oh wow this is incredible!! I love Picross games and that his such a cute narrative to it <3 The colour palette is lovely too!

I feel like sucha n00b but where abouts is the save button?
I tried pressing the "select button menu" which is shift on my keyboard I think. But that brings up a menu of albums?
I fully intend to complete this one way or another LOL

(+1)

I'm so glad you like the game so far! ๐Ÿ˜„ Thank you!

The select button menu for saving is only in TaiFab+ (the deluxe version of the game). If you are playing the free version, you can save in the area on the right from the starting point of the game. Talk to the floppy disk in front of the building. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ’พ

(+1)

OH!! Thank you so much for letting me know! <3

(1 edit) (+1)

I'm only a little way in but I really like this so far! I enjoy nonograms but a lot of games that are just an endless series of them feel a bit directionless, so I love that here they're anchored in an overworld. Also, the way you can just find puzzles lying around in weird places brings me back to the Professor Layton games, which I adored as a kid and I think were largely responsible for my love of puzzles.

(1 edit)

I'm really glad you're enjoying the game so far! Thanks for dropping in to comment! ๐Ÿ˜„ I'm also a Layton fan, so I am delighted by the comparison. ๐Ÿ’–

(+1)

So, it's been weeks since i didn't solve the puzzles but now i finished the storymode (the one with 7 fish sense). But i got the bonus puzzles, i enjoy solving some of the puzzles, half of the puzzles, i need to think about it.

You know, most of the puzzle i use my 100% of my brain cells just to solve most of the puzzle. To be honest i am very dumb at puzzles like this (without heart/lives), but i actually watched tutorials on YouTube just to get answers (including this one, of course).

But overall, i still like it even though i was struggling. I will try my best to solve other puzzles (i still don't know about the ducks).

Sorry for the rambles about this game (from the comment month ago) and i hope you're having a great day!

Thanks for your comment! I'm really glad you're enjoying TaiFab!

(+2)

I love this game!! I'm only a few hours in, but I've been having so much fun exploring the world and solving puzzles. It's a great mix of difficulties. This is also the first indie game I've played on my Anbernic!! I've really enjoyed being able to play this handheld and it runs great!

(+1)

I'm really glad you are enjoying the game, and I love seeing the diversity of systems that people are playing TaiFab on!

Thanks so much for playing and commenting! Your Anbernic looks awesome!! ๐Ÿ˜„

(+1)

Thank you very much.  I really like nonograms (this actually prompted me to write a solver).

I'm stuck at 196.  The missing ones are the whole second-to-bottom row of the 12x12 album, so I suspect there's just a class of interactable things I haven't noticed are interactable.  Can anyone think of a hint that isn't just a giveaway?

(+1)

I'm really glad you're enjoying the game! Thanks for your kind comment!

You should already know the process for finding those puzzles since you found another set like it. If you need a more specific hint, please let me know! :D

(+1)

Heh.  I'm going to do another playthrough from scratch, taking careful notes on everything.  Maybe I'll be able to make sense of it then.

(+1)

I mean, you can do that if you want! But if you want a specific hint, I can also give one. :) Just let me know!

Thank you for this absolutely charming little game, I had so much fun!! Completing all the puzzles was so so so satisfying ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–

Thank you so much for saying so! I'm really glad that you enjoyed TaiFab! :D

(+2)

This was great! I had a lot of fun playing it, and it was absolutely beautiful. I LOVE nonograms/picross and having a little bit of a story with it was so much fun. I loved doing the different parties hehehe :) The puzzles - nonogram and otherwise - weren't easy but they weren't super challenging, either; all of them had an easy solution and often when I picked up an item I'd realize where it was supposed to go, if I had previously encountered and gotten frustrated with things.

Thank you so much for the game, I had a ton of fun!

(+1)

Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I'm delighted that you enjoyed the game and I appreciate that you took the time to play my weird little fever dream. :D
